No one wants cellulite. Although cellulite isn’t dangerous and occurs naturally in women of all shapes and sizes, the unsightly presence of it can make all of us lose our confidence as we age.
At The Cellulite Treatment Center of NJ, our expert team of board-certified physicians and well-trained medical staff are ready to help you regain your skin’s beauty. Our advanced, patient-centric approach promises safe, effective, and comfortable cellulite treatment. Together, we can work to achieve optimal results for your body.
Cellulite are the lumps and dimples in the skin, caused by connective tissue pushing downward on the skin’s surface, resulting in a depression that pushes adjacent fat upward. Based on MRI scans of women with cellulite, researchers found that the exact location of each dimple on the buttocks is correlated to an underlying, perpendicular band of thick tissue under the skin. These bands may have formed due to alterations in the blood flow or lymphatic drainage.
No one knows for certain why this phenomena occurs, although many think it’s related to hormones -- specifically estrogen -- as cellulite is present in nearly all women, but almost no men. Another theory is that women’s fat cells and connective tissues are arranged vertically, so when fat cells protrude into the skin, cellulite appears. On the other hand, male tissues are formed in a criss-cross structure so this problem rarely occurs for them.
It’s important to note that cellulite is not excess or unwanted fat. Although cellulite is slightly associated with increased BMI, it isn’t associated with negative health consequences. And even though genetics and lifestyle may play a role in cellulite formation, weight loss will not get rid of cellulite either.
The Cellulite Treatment Center of NJ utilizes QWO, a revolutionary new injectable approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a cosmetic treatment for cellulite on the buttocks. In a study conducted on 365 patients, the QWO group received 3 rounds of treatments with 12 injections per buttock, around 21 days apart. The patients who received cellulite treatment saw a 45% improvement in cellulite severity, compared to the 18% in the placebo group who noted similar changes.
Although further studies have yet to be conducted to see how results will last, many experts are already impressed by how QWO compares to plastic surgery and traditional cellulite removal procedures like Velashape III, Endermologie, or the Cellulaze treatment. But how exactly does this form of cellulite reduction work?
Researchers have pinpointed the septae beneath the skin’s surface as the source of cellulite. These fibrous bands tether the skin to the muscle, so when a fatty deposit builds up between them, the septae tightens and dimples appear.
QWO contains two types of collagen-degrading enzymes called collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes, which can dissolve the tension-causing septae and allow the skin to float up. Injecting QWO also smooths out the skin as the enzymes stimulate elastin and collagen production, erasing wrinkles and lines in the treated area.
The QWO experience is the same as any other injectable, like Botox or hyaluronic acid fillers. Unlike plastic surgery, it doesn’t require local anesthesia -- although topical anesthesia may be applied to minimize pain. The procedure will take no more than 15 minutes, and a patient can immediately continue their day 30 minutes after the treatment session. Not only will they leave with significant cellulite reduction, but they will also have better skin elasticity in the buttocks as well.
Other benefits of cellulite injections are:
The ideal candidate for butt cellulite reduction is a patient who is in good health and is not currently pregnant or breastfeeding. A patient who has bleeding disorders or an active infection in the treatment area should also consider an alternative procedure. It’s also best to inform your provider if you are taking prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements, or anticoagulant medication.
As cellulite isn’t made up of fat deposits or loose skin, it cannot be treated with fat reduction, body contouring, or skin tightening procedures. A board-certified plastic surgeon has to examine the dimpling on your buttocks to determine the severity and to see if treatment will be effective. Injectable cellulite reduction is best for a patient who has moderate or severe dimpling, according to the 2009 cellulite severity scale:
An “orange peel” appearance with 1 - 4 superficial depressions and slightly “draped” or sagging skin
A “cottage cheese” appearance with 5 - 9 medium-depth depressions and moderately draped skin
A “mattress” appearance with 10 or more deep depressions and severely draped skin
Much like other injectables, the main side effect of injectable cellulite reduction is bruising and pain at the injection sites. Patients report tenderness and discoloration in the buttocks after the procedure, which may last two weeks or longer. Over time, the bruising fades and decreases with subsequent injections. A patient can manage this discomfort by avoiding sun exposure and skipping on exercise while their buttocks are healing.
There is currently no definite answer to this question, although patients who participated in the QWO trials observed that results lasted up to at least 90 days. Cosmetic surgeons are expecting the results to be long-lasting. To date, there are still no permanent treatments for cellulite; laser treatment, plastic surgery, and deep tissue massages last up to three years at best.
The QWO cellulite reduction begins with the application of a topical anesthetic to the buttocks. Once the area is numbed, the injections will be administered. The number of injections will vary depending on the size of the treatment site and the number of dimples present. Generally, a full treatment can be completed in less than 30 minutes with no formal downtime required.
The formula used in QWO injections works gradually over time; patients notice results within a few weeks of treatment. Full results will be visible in 2 - 3 months, although multiple sessions may be recommended in order to achieve your beauty goals. During your initial consultation, we will discuss how many sessions you can expect to have.
